VBCPS Digital Learning Summer Summit, June 2021 has ended

Welcome to the Greatest Summit on Earth!

#VBDLSS is a free, live, concurrent conference for VBCPS educators by the educators of Virginia Beach City Public Schools.

Due to social distancing guidelines and procedures, most sessions are available in both face-to-face (red) and live-streamed (orange) environments. Please note that there are some sessions that are ONLY offered in a virtual format (green). Face-to-face spots are limited and will fill up quickly. However, if your desired face-to-face spot is unavailable you can always choose the live stream option.

The flexibility of this conference allows you to attend in a multitude of ways. You can choose strictly face-to-face at Salem HS, live-streamed/virtual from the comfort of your home, or a mix! There will be learning lounges located at Salem HS for you to utilize throughout the day for attendees wanting to do both face-to-face and virtual options.

To Register:  ADD one session per time block to your schedule.  This will reserve your spot in that time block.  You must use SCHED to register for your desired sessions for this conference.  All links to access live-streamed and virtual versions of the session will be available in SCHED under the session information section.

Please note that all attendees MUST complete an exit ticket for EACH session in order to receive points.  All exit tickets MUST be completed by 5:00 PM on 6/22/2021.

This event is sponsored by the Instructional Technology division of the VBCPS Department of Teaching & Learning.  The Digital Learning Summer Summit Advisory Committee plans and conducts this conference.

Take a spin to win. Complete the form to enter our DLSS SWAG raffle. Some items up for grabs are: $50 Amazon gift card, beach towels and totes, BreakoutEDU subscription, FlipGrid subscriptions, t-shirts, Ocean Breeze tickets, and much much more. One entry per person.
Multiple chances to win throughout the day!

Keynote - Empowering Students with Voice and Choice (Auditorium)
Limited Capacity seats available

We didn’t ask for this. We didn’t anticipate this. But despite all of the challenges, educators have proven that social distance hasn’t meant relational distance. You have experimented with new practices and discovered new approaches. You have proven that they are at the heart of innovation. For all the talk of gadgets and apps, the future of education won’t center around a new content delivery system. The future is in your classroom. It’s with your students. It’s what happens every time you empower your students with voice and choice in their learning.

Get ready to engage your K-2 students with an integrated STEM project that can easily be differentiated and customized with a Seesaw choiceboard. We will spend time showing you how to create your own digital choiceboard with the features of Seesaw that gives even our youngest learners the ability to work independently. As math and IT specialists our collaborative goal for this project was to create a blended learning opportunity for our virtual and face-to-face younger learners. Our emphasis was to review math concepts with a fun hands on experience to take advantage of our school's green initiative and outdoor learning space.

Limited Capacity filling up

A teacher's day is too full. There are well-known tech tools to help us with the plan/teach/assess/reflect cycle, but using these tools takes time, too. Facilitators will highlight lesser-known shortcuts on well-known apps like Schoology and Google Drive. Highlights include linking Schoology courses, simpler ways to copy Schoology folders and assignments, Google Drive shortcuts, and split screen grading. Hopefully you can find one tip to save you a few clicks or a few precious seconds.
